In the ABUS testing lab

ABUS products are renowned worldwide for their high quality and durability. Before a product reaches the market, it undergoes a series of extensive tests. This means the product is checked to see if it meets international standards and whether it fulfils individual customer requirements.

In addition to the featured testing procedures below, there are a number of further tests, including the torsion test, corrosion test, (manual) force test, pressure test, UV test, drill test and many more.

Depending on requirements, the product may be operated more than 100,000 times in order to check whether all components are suitable for long-term use.

Cutting test

Cutting test

The cutting test involves the compression of two cutting jaws comparable to a bolt cutter by means of a hydraulic device – until failure of the test component.

Sawing test

To test its resistance, the product is sawn for a pre-determined period of time using special, machine-driven saw blades.

Wireless alarm systems and wireless cameras must meet strict legal requirements regarding their radiant emission. This is examined precisely using the spectrum analyser.

In order to test whether the lock can withstand an attack (for example with a hammer), a three kilogram weight is dropped on the product several times from different heights.

For certain products, there is a specified operating temperature range. Trouble-free operation, even in limit ranges, is tested in a climate chamber.

Nearly every electronic product contains a processor, the software of which is reviewed extensively according to a test schedule.

Picking

Using special manipulation tools, a test is carried out to see whether the cylinder and / or the locking mechanism can be picked – without using brute force.

To determine security under tensile strain, the product is fixed into a machine and pulled apart until it fails or reaches breaking point.

Hardness test

Hardness test

For hardened steel, different methods (Rockwell, Vickers or Brinell) are used to determine hardness / tensile strength and to check i fit meets the required properties.
